About photo l.a.
Confirming Los Angeles’ rising status as a destination and marketplace for curators, collectors and art enthusiasts are the city’s many new galleries, world-class museums and outstanding university programs. Now in its 23rd year, photo l.a., the longest running art fair west of New York City, carries on its mandate to showcase emerging and established artists from around the globe alongside traditional and contemporary art galleries and private dealers. photo l.a. continues the discourse on photography’s place in the fine art universe, providing a platform for the display of vintage masterworks from the 19th and 20th centuries, contemporary photography, new techniques, and new forms of presentation alongside video and multimedia installations. This exciting juxtaposition creates the character that is uniquely photo l.a. By hosting more than sixty prestigious galleries and over 12,000 visitors comprised of collectors, curators, dealers, and lovers of fine art, photo l.a. has developed a distinguished history, ranking it among the top photography fairs in the world. Our fair has sharply influenced the art and photography landscape of Los Angeles by increasing public awareness of photography and promoting the acceptance and inclusion of photo-based art in almost all contemporary galleries and museum exhibitions.
