While most men carried weapons into battle during World War II, war correspondent Stanley Troutman was armed only with a camera. He served his country by photographing the war in the South Pacific Theater including the devastated cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the dropping of the atomic bombs.
Troutman's images were published in newspapers and magazines around the world and helped to tell the story of the horrors of war as well as the service and sacrifice of American troops.
Troutman received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Press Photographer’s Association of Greater Los Angeles in 2004. He was Vice-President in 1946 and a member for more than 70 years. He started the Stan Troutman Endowment Fund to establish a yearly PPAGLA award for the Best UCLA Sports Photo.
The exhibition, opening October 15th, will include photographs, letters, artifacts, and memorabilia from Troutman's tour in the South Pacific including his time on mainland Japan.
An opening reception will be held at 11 am on Oct. 15!
